Steve and his team have designed and built us a side extension together with knock through of existing kitchen and living area to create us an amazing kitchen, living and dining space, plus utility. Steve’s experience in design, build and project management has been nothing but A* from start through to completion. Steve is honest, if he doesn’t think it will look right, if it isn’t going to fit within the budget, he will tell you before hand rather than letting you go over budget or include something that doesn’t work – and looking back, he was right! His experience shines through. Steve spent time on the design, taking in consideration of all my wish list, tweaked the design together over several design meetings, and designed us a space within our budget. He answers the phone, he turns up whenever he says he is turning up, he answers any queries timely, he coordinates the trades efficiently, deals with any issues, and was present on the build to ensure things ran smoothly. The project was completed to a high standard, on time and within budget. It’s been great having him project manage, he thinks of everything, meaning I don’t have to, which has led to a pretty much stress-free build for us! The trades used were skilled, polite, paid attention to detail, turned up when they were meant to and tidied up after themselves. A great group of trades to have around during the 3-month project! At the end of the project they have dealt with any snags and been awesome about finishing some bits for us that we were meant to complete ourselves! I wouldn’t have any hesitation about using Steve and his team for any future projects and recommending him to any of my friends and family.

I will say from the outset Steve did not want me as a client. A close friend of mine, a façade architectural engineer, no less, recommended Steve most highly. My husband and I had bought a wreck of a property, and this poor Leviathan needed more than a second wind. We contacted Steve. He agreed to meet us at said ‘wreck’ where we gave him a tour with the addition of our visionary expectations. Our budget was sadly meagre, not through lack of funds but rather ignorance to what construction costs. This area was soon ironed out, but Steve had clearly left with the impression that I was a ‘diva’. I’m a writer. I’m an archaeologist. I have a Master’s in dealing with the dead. If there’s something I’m not, it’s a diva. My hands are acquainted with dirt. But to convince Steve was an act of diplomacy all its own. Thankfully, he saw the light. Partly, I think, because I promised we would not be living at the building site. With three feral children, I had no intention of them going rogue. Steve set about working on the drawing for our upgrade and extension. We wanted a significant extension, and the first floor ceilings needed to be lowered to make a second. This was a Herculean task, but Steve put pen to paper and made it happen with no fuss. He was concerned about the attic’s height. It really bothered him. He, very sweetly, put tape on the wall, then called me to check if I was happy with the dimensions. I’m 6ft and found no reason to complain. Steve saw to everything. He designed the building, and then built it. Understanding architecture, I was keen that the person who created the vision put it into practice. Only the designer truly knows his work. To sum this up, my little, feral family have been living in this amazing property for over a year. I’ve left it this long to write a review because I wanted it to be honest. It takes time for construction to settle; it takes time for odds and ends to be ironed out… and yet, there have been no odds and ends. Thus, is Steve’s legacy. Steve is an extraordinarily talented designer and builder. We’re very grateful to him. What can I say… we live in the house Steve built.

I recently had a single-story kitchen extension, a utility room conversion with a downstairs shower and toilet and an upstairs bathroom refurbishment carried out by Steve and his team. After several planning visits and discussion of options the work was carried out to a high standard at the agreed price and I’m delighted with the outcome. Steve and the team are a very high calibre of no-nonsense high quality tackle-it-all building company that have consistently gone above and beyond our expectations. Steve will attentively listen to your needs, and then refine and re-shape your idea to fit to your budget in order to maximise the use of the space available - he optimised our renovation/extension to create a small study seemingly out of thin air! A very welcome addition. Rather than approaching projects as set-in-stone plans that are to be adhered to (as larger firms do), Steve will check with you daily if you wish - and certainly at all stages to make sure things look how you expect. For me it's hard to envisage a space until it's being built and walls are going up - and Steve knows we all have this weakness, hence plans are kept fluid and finer details can be hashed out within budget as things take shape. This was especially useful as we had the curve-ball of the pandemic to contend with on our build, and resource scarcity. I was kept in the loop of all developments along the way and raw truth of things in the industry and the situation were discussed - I've had many professionals and contractors work for me in the past and this is the first time I didn't feel like things were being glossed over or hidden. This is a real strength of B&D. We trust Steve to deliver on time and to a high standard, so much so that we have hired him again this year to landscape our gardens with a general budget and the plan to 'make this mess manageable'. Work is storming ahead on this, the results are impressive and I know that Steve will do right by me and keep within an agreed scope. I wouldn't use anyone else.

We're extremely impressed with our kitchen diner extension and new garage and garden office that have been built. Building and Drawing Services were involved from the ideas stage and we loved the design that Steve did for us. With two young children we were nervous about having building work done but Steve and Pete are both family men and were brilliant with the kids. They went out of their way to keep the site safe and easily accessible for us. Sometimes this involved parking their vans in surrounding residential roads but this meant we could keep our daughters safe and easily get pushchairs etc in and out. After speaking to 5 other builders, it was clear that Steve at Building and Drawing Services was the man for us. Work has just completed on a single level extension having relocated the kitchen and created a new utility room, snug with glass lantern roof and converted a garage into an office and storage. Steve oversaw every aspect and was always available at the end of the phone. Everyone who came on site was professional, courteous and the level of work carried out by all trades was top notch. The work had to be, as Steve described me as the 'fussiest man he knew' - he meant this in a positive way! Steve's knowledge, practical problem solving and communication skills are second to none. I couldn't recommend Steve and Building and Drawings more highly. Top tip - before you agree any deal make sure you have a 'Completion Cake' as part of the agreement! Thank me later! From the start I required my design to be strictly adhered to as far as building regulations would allow and that my ideas which were portrayed on the design drawings would become part and parcel of the completed building work. This was discussed at meetings we had with Steve before the contract was awarded and before the work started. Everything was considered including minor detail which was agreed could be left, but not forgotten until a preferred option was discussed and agreed during the building process. Design detail I had not considered was highlighted to me by Steve at these early meetings and the way forward was agreed on a fully mutual understanding of the requirements. One thing that was pleasantly surprising was how close Steve and his team stuck to the agreed schedule. Steve is a honest bloke who tells it how it is and with regard to the services he requires from his suppliers, deliveries and sub-contractors does not suffer fools gladly. Steve kept me informed of anything that may have caused any disruption to our everyday normal lifestyle but there is was nothing untoward worth making note of. Any information or advice I required during the progress being made was freely given by Steve and his friendly and polite team of workers.

Steve Mills and his team built me a single storey rear extension comprising a garden room lounge with large sliding patio doors. The extension included a lobby and toilet. All of the work including foundations, brickwork, joinery, plastering, plumbing and electrics were carried out to a high standard by B&D Services within the original schedule and to the price quoted. The work was also carried out in line with the design drawings and all the respective building regulations. Steve and his team are all very polite, friendly and hard working. I would definitely use Building and Drawing Services again and have no hesitation in recommending them to you for your building requirements.

We utilised Building & Drawing’s building services for a single storey extension - which included a new kitchen, utility room (including downstairs toilet) and dining room and also the renovation of both the family bathroom and en suite. Key to the success of this build was Steve being open and honest with us from the design phase all the way through to completion. This included confining what was and wasn’t doable and he was able to provide his experience from previous work (and living with a family himself) on what would be most suitable (we can’t thank him enough for proposing keeping a separate front room - for a little peace - rather than having it all open plan). Throughout the build, Steve kept us up to date on progress and signposted decisions we needed to make in the near future and when we needed to get items ordered (such as the kitchen) to align to his plan. He was also open to various changes/additions we proposed which we identified as the build took shape. He never dismissed them - but discussed them with us so we reached a joint agreement on the way forward. He also proposed possible suppliers for items and on some occasions even arranged a discount. Steve and the team were also sympathetic to the “challenges” of living with a young children in a house when there is a substantial building work happening. This included scheduling work so we had cooking facilities and access to a sink for as long as possible, having regular conversations on timings of work being done in the future so we could plan ahead and also being approachable to the children - so they didn’t feel afraid in the house (yet calling out when they shouldn’t enter a particular room for risk of injury!). The final result exceeds our expectations of what we expected when we started this journey. We now have a great family space of a combined kitchen/diner/living area, which works really well for our family and two high end bathrooms. We would certainly use Building & Drawing again and will definitely be approaching them for any future building work we have.

We started our journey in January with Steve completing our drawings. We initially contacted him for a chat to get a price for the drawing only. My husband dealt with Steve initially and when I asked what he was like, I was just told "you'll get on well with him", and that we most certainly have. When we started the process I was in the middle of postnatal depression and quite why I agreed to an extension then I've no idea, but that aside, Steve and his guys have been amazing throughout. I remember some of the first visits we had from Steve discussing designs and ideas and how it's all evolved is excellent. After planning was granted we went to see some of there work and talked to the clients this reassured us they could do the job, previously in Leeds we have not had a lot of success with builders, this time however we struck lucky the could not of been more helpful.
